Originally from Moncks Corner, SC, Dr. John W. Miller Jr. is the Chair of the Social Work Department at Benedict College. Previously, he served as an Associate Professor of Social Work at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock from 2007 to 2017. Dr. Miller received his BA, and MSW degrees from the Univ. of South Carolina, and earned his Ph.D. in Social Work from The University of Tennessee. His work has yielded a host of publications. In 2017 Dr. Miller published his first textbook, “African American Perspectives: Matters of Consideration for Social Work Practice.”
Brenda Clark is former chair and valued member of the Benedict College Social Work family. She received her BA in Sociology from North Carolina Central University, and she earned her MSW from Howard University. As our renowned Senior faculty member, Ms. Clark has served our department for over 40 years. She is a valued asset to our team and is your go-to source for any question you might have.
Dr. Hopson is a former interim chair. He earned his BA degree from Morehouse College and MSW degree from Atlanta University, and PhD from the University of South Carolina. His interests are children and families, cultural competencies, and mental health. In addition to his duties here at Benedict College, Dr. Hopson has served as a CSWE reaffirmation site visitor for CSWE, and as a contributing editor for the Journal of Baccalaureate Social Work (BPD).

Personable and detail-oriented, Eunika Simons connects with students and leads our field practicum experience. Ms. Simons earned her BA, MSW, and MPH from the University of South Carolina where she is currently a Public Health doctoral candidate. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful Director of Field Education who is a crucial addition to our ever growing team!
